Car vs mouse: round one a draw; car will rise again … the mouse will not

My son who’s in his 20s bought himself his first car a mk7.5 Golf R. Keeps it in the underground car park of his smart London flat. Very clean dedicated secure parking bay. Rang me to say there was a noise on startup / moving off. Closer inspection revealed the serpentine belt was off the pulleys and there was what appeared to be furry remains scattered about that side of engine bay. Charge light came on red on dash so car dead. Car is getting repaired; stowaway mouse that was to its great surprise suddenly the tool that removed the belt is well beyond repair. Warm snug spot in engine bay and prospect of nibble on wiring (some are soya based these days ) is what attracted the urban rodent there I suppose?! Fortunately the car has timing chains and this belt is just for driving auxiliaries otherwise it could’ve been expensive.

New serpentine belt fitted and area cleaned. All ok on VAG diagnostic and test drive.
