Thread: Banjo horn brackets 71/72

  1. #1

    Banjo horns and brackets 70-73

Does anyone have info they can share as to when the banjo horns changed from 2 together facing down on the back of the battery box to one on the battery box and one facing forward at the bumper to guard attaching point?

Somewhere early in the 72 year models the switch occurred I believe.

Clyde, I don't have an exact answer but banjo horns both facing down did make it into the early '72 model year as seen on the ex-Longballa '72S with a 7/71 production date.

Not to be overly picky, but wouldn't a 7/71 production date be before the August holiday making it a '72 model year car.

I think you meant to say, ‘making it a ‘71 model year’, no?

It was the 23rd 72S built. 7/71 is correct and it's 100% a very early 72. I did a lot of research on the horns and everything else and both down was the call. I do believe that changed much later in 72 into the 73.

It has been my understanding that the "model year," such as it was, changed at the time of the annual holiday in August. Cars completed before the holiday were usually considered being of that calendar and model year while those completed after the holiday were of the next calendar and model year. Therefore a 7/71 completion date would be from the 1971 model year while one completed 9/71 would be of the 1972 model year. I'm curious as to why this July, 1971 car is considered a 1972 model year as it seems quite early to have received such an "update."

BTW, here's a photo from an adjacent thread purporting to show downward facing banjo horns on a '72. I'm adding it here just to have all the pictures of these horns in one place.

Not saying this is the correct mounting ….but would like some comments
    12/70 mfg and 71 model year .

If the thought is that both should face down….. then I think I might need a different bracket for the short one ?
    Thanks

Very close to Frank's MY71, my 71T has a 10/70 production date (also gold metallic ). I also would like to know how to mount the Bosch Banjo horns correctly. Subscribed
