I have another detail question about the 911S M491 for those who have been around these very special cars for a lot longer than I have:

In the spare parts list for the M491 911S, under ‘Body - Bumpers Front and Rear’, there is part number 911.505.905.02 ‘Bumper front with spoiler’ listed.

I have Googled this and drawn a blank but all the photos I have seen of the 21 M491s (apart from the four factory tour photos of an unfinished car with a steel bumper and S deco trim holes) have the two rectangular cut-outs below the horn grilles which is one of the defining features of the M491. I was therefore wondering if this bumper was moulded allowing for the cut-outs in pre-determined positions or were they cut by hand in Werk 1, with possibility of the cut-outs being in slightly different positions and of different sizes? I would imagine it was the former as there would have needed to be a supply of these parts in case of damage during races & rallies but I don’t know for sure and would love to see a head-on photo of this part not mounted to a car if anyone has one. I should say that all the reproduction ‘2.5 ST’ GRP bumpers available today that I have looked at do not have the cut-outs present, which seems very odd to me. I would also like to know what other features a genuine example of this unique bumper had if at all possible.

It would have been hugely helpful if Michael Keyser had included just a bit more of the bumper in last photo during the factory tour in December ‘71 - it certainly looks like a fibreglass S bumper to me though at least!

Hope someone can help!
