    Father in-law’s Mercedes ‘73 450SL

My father in-law passed away 6 years ago. He bought this 450SL new in 1973 and put a little over 70k miles on it. It has been in SoCal since new. The car has been garaged since new and not driven in 30 years. I probably should sell it for my mother in-law. I know little about these cars, other than this is the only year the 450SL had small bumpers in the US (I think in ‘72 they were 350SL and went to large bumpers in ‘74). Any Mercedes experts out there know what these are going for?

You have heard of Goggle, yes? Probably a much better way to search for your answer then to post on an Early S Porsche site....Also, Hagerty Valuations is a GREAT place to start....

Unless this is 'For Sale, what's it worth' thread? My guess after a super quick 'look see' about $25k

    Hi Scott,
this looks like a really interesting SL from afar.
The R107 is a vehicle that made a strong impression on me when I was young in the 70s. That's why I have one .

The following positive things can be seen from the short description:
    - First owner car
    - Maintained condition
    - Relatively low mileage
    - Interesting color
    - Probably original paint
    - Hardtop available
    - No winters with salt, protection from the sun in summer thanks to the garage
    - V8 engine

It would be good if the following points were clarified:
    - No accident?
    - Sales contract available?
    - Completed maintenance booklet?
    - No stand damage?
    - Is the engine running?
    - Original tool bag available?

It is difficult to estimate a possible selling price from afar. For a comparison you could have a look here: http://bringatrailer.com/mercedes-benz/r107/

I would appreciate it if the SL could stay in the family. It doesn't happen often.
Please let us know how things are going with the SL.
    Golden greetings
    Andreas

    Thanks for your input Andreas.
    A quality re-paint in the late 70’s.
The car hit a deer up on a mountain road and the right front fender was replaced. Happened in the 70’s.
    Original sales contract.

    The engine runs great.
    Tool kit

Been sitting just like this since the early 90’s

Great Scott, slightly adapted from Wild West End by Dire Straits 1978: "She is a honey"!
If you actually want to sell it, good luck!

These early 107s are the best IMO, built like tanks and have wonderful road manners. A one family-owned, great color combo, small bumpers and all records example should do very well on BaT.

It's lovely, Euro headlights will make it lovelier. Send it in, it's the kind of car they like. Easy and the most stress-free seller's experience you'll ever have. GLWTS!
