Option 569, protection bar between rear buffers/pads

    Hello,

Code 569 is one of the coolest looking option available back in the day, mostly seen on UK delivered RS's. I bought recently an original 'Rammschutz' protection bar (item 104, 902.505.340.95) plus the two buffers with rubber pads (item 85, 902.505.033.095, or item 92, 911.505.029.00). I can see that 85 is for the 911 T, and 92 for S, RS (M472). Also, pretty odd that there is no one for the 911E
Anyone know what the difference is between 85 en 92?

I can't find the part number for the shorter rubber pad that is needed on the buffer when the protection bar is mounted, is it the same as a front rubber pad?

One of my buffers is rusted beyond repair so looking for a replacement. Mounting holes between the regular buffer and the version for the protection are way different so might need to buy one without the holes and drill mounting holes as per original.

Pics from the 72/73 parts manual.

    Regards,
    Cees

Suggest you search "rear nudge bar"

    (as an example) See https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...rear+nudge+bar

To your questions - per the above thread which has more detail (and my experience also when I fitted one to my car):
    - I drilled my own holes in the rear over-rider (or .. "buffer" ?!)
    - yes, it's the front pad that one uses on the rear over-rider
    - gasket from a 356A bumper mechanism between the chrome nudge bar and the over-rider

Note: sadly, the gentlemen who used to re-create these bars past away some years ago.

Thanks Paul, that thread answered most of my questions and I can plan ahead. I have a set of re-chromed over riders, Porsche calls them buffers but unsure if I want to drill extra holes. Should not be to difficult in finding a used one that needs re-chroming, nerf bar needs it too anyway.

Done some 'research' reading all the posts on the nudge bar. Interesting for sure but did not answer why the 911E did not get option 569, presume mistake in the PET. Also, difference between part 85 and 92 still unknown. May be ask Freisinger if they have those
Front rubber pads are easy to get, nice.
In the manual no drawing of the rubber seal between bar and bumper horn but almost everyone tells it should be there although the mount between both chromed parts is really flush.
Found the 356 A part number: 644.505.191.00, oval seal used on the front bumper. bar There are also seals on the rear (inner and outer) bumper bars, 644.505.291.00 (oval) and 644.505.291.01 (round).

I’ve found the PET to have some mistakes. I’ll go back into my manuals to check availability but, i never noticed that it was not listed for the E.. The difference between the two buffers is the holes to mount the rubber trim strips. The T buffer doesn’t have the rubber strips. E and S buffers do.

I have seen differences on RHD RS with factory fitted M569 — rear protection bars with no evidence of a rubber seal between ends and chrome bumper horn (like the paper parts book) and other with a black very visibly seals protruding between. Both are lowish mileage genuine low owner — largely unmolested examples of RHD M472 RS. Hard to be sure after 50 years that they’re as originally done by factory, but I’ve good reason tk think likely are. This suggests small details of fittings used evolved with maybe one of the washers illustrated was always black (plastic/ rubber?) just what used was much larger hence protrudes quite visibly on some cars? Certainly some of those seals are much bigger diameter than illustrated — bigger than the bar.

Great pics Dennis, thanks. Really like this option. Silver grey RS with two fog lights at the outside of the bumper horns is unique. Doubt it was done by the factory..
