Informations I already have , HughH but , 300012 is known to be the VERY FIRST to be delivered to the USA, Press and demonstrator car for Porsche cars in California from October 1964 to mid 1965. Rumours say that it has been sold to a collector in Nevada ...

So what i'm reading here , is that the author of this letter : Phil Taylor / Porsche Car Distributors , Inc. / Operations Manager.

Is stating that cars 300 001 - 300 009 were 'prototypes' (I would use the term pre-production on some of this group) also , besides however many of the 13 xxx 901(2) cars which were not rebodies (of which I would think the majority were not).

And this Co. , would seemingly have a good line of contact for info. as they one of 8 authorized Distributors for the U.S. :

    (From 356 registry) :

"According to an undated Porsche Booklet believed from the late 1950's or early 1960's, the seven Distributors in the continental USA were:

Hoffman Motors Corporation - NY, NY
Brumos Porsche Car Corp. - Jacksonville, Fla
Porsche Car Distributors, Inc. - Culver City, CA
Porsche Cars Southwest, Inc. - San Antonio, Tx
Porsche Car Pacific Inc. - Burlingame, Ca. (shown as San Francisco, Ca. is 9/61).
Porsche Car Import Inc. - Northbrook, Il.
Porsche Car Northeast, Inc. - Bedford, Mass.

    There was also:

The Volkswagen Hawaii, Inc. - Honolulu, Hawaii
Volkswagen Canada Limited - Toronto, Canada.

These distributors were confirmed in a Porsche Service Booklet dated 9/61 (shown below).

I believe by 1972 , this Distributorship (Porsche Car Distributors , Inc.) had either a name change to Volkswagen Pacific , Inc. at 11300 Playa St. Culver City , California

Or it cease to exist , and the other took it's place. As there would not be two in the same city.

Here are some letterheads/Logos I found on the early and later rendition of this Culver City Distributor (and what looks to be an even later ? Porsche/Audi Division of it ...or maybe at the same time ? as the Volks. Pacific . Inc. logo on lite green paper. The lite green is dated Jan. 26 , 1972) :

I don't know how the letter is dated Oct 29, 1963. Production began Sept 14, 1964. The change from 901 to 911 came Nov 10, 1964. 300013 was completed Sept 25, 1964. So I assume the 1963 is a typo and should be 1964 at least. Certainly little info on the web about the Pan Pacific Auto Show. Anyone find the date of it; assume Sept/ Oct 1964? Very curious about the prototype statements.
