alloy wood wheel - service bulletin?

    @ all

there must have been a serivce bulletin for a steering wheel exchange from the factory anytime may/
june 1966 - the alloy steering wheel seemed to have a recall for exchange with the „standard“ wood wheel.

„…..In compliance with instructions received by the Porsche Factory, we are forwarding enclosed wooden steering wheel for your car. Please, have your garage exchange the steering wheel and also turn in the old one to the Porsche of America Corporation. Hoping that this switch will not inconvenience you, and thanking you for your kind understanding and cooperation,
    we remain with best wishes,….“

does anyone has more infos available?

    best regards from

haul, the 1966 group F (Fahrgestell, Aufbau, elektr. Anlage) service bulletin index has no bulletins regarding steering wheels... sorry.
Likewise no bulletins in group M (Motor und Kupplung) or group H (Hinterachse).

The factory service bulletins were numbered and indexed in calendar years, from January through December. The later /66 bulletins include information for the '67 model vehicles.

haul, was your second letter from Joachim Peiper, or just someone with a similar name?
I can post the 1966 index if you like, but there were no '66 service bulletins about steering wheels, and your letters do not refer to a service bulletin.

I've heard there was an "factory exchange program" too. I have no documents on it, but it was said that the alloy wheel would vibrate.

    Jochen Peiper

    6/6/1961, 1 p.m. • from DER SPIEGEL 24/1961
Jochen Peiper, 44, former SS Standartenfuhrer and commander of Panzer Regiment 1 of the »Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler«, who was sentenced to death for shooting 71 American soldiers, later pardoned to life imprisonment in Landsberg and released in 1956, lost his position at the Stuttgart car company Porsche KG. Peiper joined the plant at the beginning of 1957 as a commercial assistant and quickly rose to become department head. Boss Ferry Porsche had promised him general power of attorney "at the latest in 1960", whereas the works council, which Peiper was only under the. had accepted the condition that he would not be given "a managerial position" so opposed that the works management fired Peiper. Peiper and his former employer reached a settlement: Peiper is leaving the company and will receive half a year's salary as a severance payment.
