Some photos from one of the races at Holtville - running race number 23 unknown date, but know it was 1996... I had a hell of a race with the Mazda - race number 2 - driven by a kiwi... I think his name was Brian Winch... We were always closely matched and rubbed door handles through the 180 degree corner more than once... never hard contact, just really close, hard and fair racing...

And somehow managed to get even luckier, and win both Cal Club and San Diego regional championships… I only have the San Diego region plaque in the UK (photo), the Cal Club trophy is in France…

REFRESH 1996/1997:
With the 1996 season over, and me intoxicated with racing… I managed to do a few things… In the following order…
First - Rebuild Gertrude’s body into a 2.8 RSR look… It was done in fiberglass to save weight and cost, and finally got rid of the passenger seat (except to and from the circuit – or passenger rides) …I ended up running various combinations of wheels – Fuchs 11x15s were really hard to find, so I ran some Fuchs and some Compomotive wheels in various combinations… Here are the only photos I can find of Gertrude right after body work and paint – unfortunately no “build” shots… Kills me to see the rough and dirty way we did this – E.g. the overspray on the oil lines, etc… Note license plate - still registered for the road to drive to the circuits...
