    Operation of targa latch safety?

Have been futzing with adjusting fit of targa top. I had never noticed before but when operating a latch with top off car only one of the two latches on a side turns when you close the latch. Targa Dan explains that only one is suppose to turn and refers to the other as a “safety”. Am wondering how the safety actual operates?

I'd like very much to have more complete and correct information on the structure and function of the SWB targa latches, specifically as follows:

First, when the latch handles are turned, do both latch hooks move? (Some resources indicate that only one of the hooks actually moved when the handle is turned.)

Second, how is the targa handle secured in the latch (so that it doesn't fall out)?

Third, what is the proper depth of the receiver/barrel for the targa handle which is a part of the latch? (Some latches that I've seen have very shallow receiver/barrels, and some have deeper receivers/barrels. Stoddard repop latches appear to have deeper barrels. Which is correct?

I really appreciate the knowledge of this community. Thank you in advance.

Only one of the latches functions when turning for lock position….the other other only functions when turning the handle opposite direction of turn for locking….this opens/spreads both latches so the will engage in the slot when pushing down to engage…..only then do you turn handle in the opposite directions to lock.

The handles have a little pin/slot that engages in the lock mechanism when you push in and holds in place ..but its not a strong action, you can feel it …..but you can also pull out with modest pressure
