VDM 380mm Steering Wheel installation Question

    Hello -

Just got a repro 380mm VDM steering wheel and am wondering how the horn button (see pic) is going to affix to the hockey puck?

Below the red arrow is pointing to the back side of the button. Is it press fit on there or - how is it held on?

Assuming I can get that 27MM nut off of there...

    Thanks,

    FT

Since there are no slots on the hockey puck you need the chrome trim that holds in the leather button that press fits. The metal piece you are showing just fits on top of the hockey puck and the trim holds it in. You also need the attaching hardware to twist on the puck to the wheel.

The chrome trim piece, do you have a pic or part number? Below is the old part & what I have. Thanks.

The chrome trim is there on the button/piece with crest. It looks like the tabs are bent flat so push the button into the puck and see if pressure will hold it in place. You can remove it if stuck with a small punch through one of the holes in situ. Transfer the innards from old push to the puck and you should be good.

Transfer the inside parts from your old horn first and then attach your new puck to the steering wheel. That way when you press in the leather button, the embossed Porsche emblem will be oriented correctly.

The problem with this one ^^^^^ the grain in the leather cover is all wrong.

This is the "RS" wheel so its double leather wrapped/thicker. I got it from rose passion, it was $375 (appears to be $445 now?) plus shipping $45. Since they give you a 2 week return option, at that price I figured I would check it out. Even if I did have to pay the return shipping, it was still significantly less than the Aase wheel listed above at $725 plus shipping.

My friend has the one from Sierra Madre, I think its comparable. One issue - I do Not like the horn button ($358) leather texture, which is hard to see from the low resolution pics on the Rose Passion site. Its made of a textured leather (pic below) which doesn't match the smooth wheel leather IMO. I purchased a replacement piece of leather from Sierra. If I was doing it over I would probably source the horn button from Sierra.

Posting a few high resolution pics because the ones on the rose passion site are terrible. Shipping took about 4 business days.
