Impossible to convert a 68 seat into a 67 seat hmmmmmm, I did.....


Only a small hand-full of Debbie downers would be able to spot anything off. I admit it, I did not modify the backrest, could have cut the tops of the 68 seat frame off and fabricated a new part that would have no headrest holes (I covered them up) thus making the top of the seat thinner. The bottom of the seat looks about the same. I even spoke with JimmyT about making repro 67 screws that were 8mm shank with a small ended flat-head, sent him original samples, but he threw his hands up and said too involved (he makes some of the weirdest coolest parts at a very very very high skill level).


Sure give me comments about how incorrect they look, nobody notices, they are also in a 912, cost half when finished of what the 67 cores were if you can find them. There is a point where some parts are just not available, you've looked for years, you've tried to remanufacture but nobody is willing to pay the costs to make it worth it and 999,997 out of 100,000 people would never know the difference. Then you go to sell your car on BAT or at high end auction and a car with repro wrong years sports seats and a shitty paint job brings 25% more than your perfect car because "the seller was a good guy" then you have to think some of these discussions without a real proper side by side comparisons are really stupid

nice seats - but (sorry) i see at first glance that these are NOT 67 recaros. I agree with you, however, that most people in this world would not see it. but do most people know what a 67 recaro is? you can also use this argument to tie a china rolex around your arm for $100.

Why is it stupid when there a some outthere who didn’t need any comparsion?
Your seats looks nice, your spec match the interior well and it’s great you enjoy it
and a lot didn’t recognize anything wrong but the special look of the 67 originals they didn’t have.

iykyk and imho it‘s important to name the special details about these cars in full correctness
because it’s the 4.5 Fuchs, the engine, the 67 Recaro sport seats,
the leather steerimg wheel, etc. which are THE S details and make the difference
and in my eyes it’s not correct to say „it’s ok, a lookalike is enough because the most don’t see the difference“.

I restored my original 67 sport seats and the turned out good, very good, but i still see the difference
to an untouched survivor!

A forum and chat like this is a great support to help each other to find the „real deal“
and so it would be better to be on spot with the special details.

For me it‘s the most fun to find out what was correct in 1967 and how it have to look.

Somebody knock off a few dozen accurate 67 sport seat repros and watch the price of originals go doooown just like all the other rare but reproduced parts. Of course the repro parts lack a soul like my Chibson Les Paul guitar that I love as much as my original 57 but hated by the purists. Knowing what I know now I wouldn’t attempt to convert a 68 to a 67 because it would be easier to just fab new 67 frames.

Here is a comment: "I'm on 'Team Mark' on this topic and was thinking of doing the same thing for my own 912. The original marshmallow seats really suck...the 912s can handle and a sport seat is totally appropriate; his solution is both practical and elegant."

Was looking today on the seat we hade in box for 10 years + ! but seam to be a 68 seat !
