Hi Henry, thanks for responding. I am definitely interested in seeing what you have. I sent you a PM with my email address for details.

    Thanks,

    TIA

Here’s my ‘72 for reference. No stickers since I bought this car in 1985 (but I’ve certainly seen pictures of the stickers over the years). My car is a February 1972 build date. And I’m pretty sure this is original paint in this enclosure.

Thanks for posting your beautiful ‘72 oil filler cap Peter. I’m assuming it has the bayonet on the tank side of the cap. That is exactly what I am looking for.

An interesting thing, mine , which I assume is not original says Oil and on the opposite side is the Audi Symbol ( the Olympic Hoops)

    72 oil tank cap.

I have this one, definitely needs some TLC but it is the real deal.

Hi Cees, thanks for replying to the thread. I’m hoping to find one that doesn’t have the plier marks on the handle. Other than that, it looks great.

Hi moito, thanks for continuing to be on the lookout for me. I have since found what I believe is a ‘72 cap with the OIL embossing on one side and the bayonet fitting. The downside is that it was replated so the nice patina was gone, but I can live with it. Hopefully someone else that needs a cap will see these and contact you.

    Thanks again,
    Rick
