    Packing and shipping recommendations

    Hi there,

Am looking at purchasing a 915 gearbox from either the US or UK and shipping back to Australia.

Does anyone have any good contacts/recommendations for crating/packing services and shipping from either US or UK. Any advice is welcome as I am new to this!

    Many thanks

I have shipped Porsche transmissions from Alaska to California Motor Sports (CMS). CMS has a specific container they use for this purpose that I find to be very sturdy and reliable. Maybe contact CMS to inquire about what they use?

Due to the weight (60kg +/- plus boxing etc so say 80kg total) I would use a Freight Forwarder someone like Mondiale. The gearbox would have to be strapped to a pallet and boxed by the seller, (this shouldn't be a problem).
The Freight Forwarder would pick up from seller and consolidate it with items in a sea container and deliver it to you upon arrival in Australia.
Have a ring a round your Freight guys in Ozzie and seek their advice
I also would have thought that you should be able to source a 915 box in Australia but perhaps Im wrong.

I ship at least one trans a month. Sent a g50 to Taiwan, a 915 to Australia and recently a 993 x-country. I ship them in a 120 quart igloo cooler. I strap the trans to a rectangular piece of plywood, drop it in and duct tape closed. The plywood adds a bit more protection and keeps the shift shaft from moving forward and poking through the end of the cooler. I just sent a cooler to a customer so he could shop s 993 trans to me. One big advantage is I can ship FedEx vs having to ship freight on a pallet. I have a forklift but many customers don’t. A large cooler will fit into most cars and can be handled by one person. Also, any leaks are contained.
A part isn't purchased until paid.
