Lovely day at Goodwood Breakfast club

Pleasant surprise to see seven examples of the 340 built at the Goodwood breakfast today. A pleasure to chat about my recollections of the development and build programme of this model with some knowledgable enthusiast owners present, several of whom had bought and kept these uncommon Elise variants since they left Hethel brand new.

    Little write-up from Goodwood folks:

Also chat to a charming couple who owned this much enjoyed series 1 Exige — I might still have my hand annotated “stage gate” papers from the programme in my files somewhere:

This 6 decade old beauty didn’t miss a beat and was a perfect choice for the round trip: London - Sussex. Particularly well suited to the beautiful twisty country roads through the South Downs and a dlight detour to the stomping ground of Mike Hawthorn and along the road past the scene of his fatal crash in 1958. The car, destination route certainly conjured up spirit of their two seasons at the Scuderia on a gorgeous sunny day.

Lovely period photo of Peter Collins Dino at Goodwood Track easter 1958:

Backdrop of Goodwood Circuit and car would've both been very familiar to the Ferrari racing subjects of “Mon Ami Mate” British racer Peter Collins and the Farnham local boy Mike Hawthorn the 1958 World Champion in a Dino but in single seater F1 configuration.

As their contemporary Roy Salvadori once said, “Give me Goodwood on a summer’s day and you can forget the rest of the world.”
