    68 Sportomatic gaskets question

    The gaskets on my 68 Sportomatic are leaking and I am going to replace them. I have found a supplier here in Europe that can supply all the gaskets. He has the gasket for the intermediate plate in different thicknesses so this is not a problem.
    What is not clear to me is that in PET there are two lateral covers mentioned for 68 and earlier and for 69 and later. Also two types of gaskets are mentioned but lack the indication for which year they are for.
    Who knows which one I need for my 68er?
    a. The rubber O-rings
    or
    b. The paper gaskets?

    My transmission is original to this car.

    The gasket set should gaskets for both models and you use the ones that apply. I think the differences were cast aluminum cases versus die cast magnesium. The later case used the o-ring. I would think that yours is the aluminum case.

    It's not a set, I have to order them separately. My casing is aluminum so I need the gasket.

    The lateral cover of a '68 Sportomatic used a paper gasket, not an O-ring.
    Later Sporto covers had a deep groove for an O-ring, and did not use a paper gasket. Have you removed the cover yet, to see for certain?
    All Sportomatic transmissions had aluminum housings.

    The cover gasket for a '68 Sportomatic is illustration #66, part number 905.301.391.00.
