Porsche Black Key from a Red Key Question

I lost the black key to my 70 911, but I have the red key. I purchase Geninue Porsche black key blanks. Can a locksmith use my red key to create my black key? I searched the forum, but didnt find much. The locks are not original to the car, so cutting a key from the VIN key code won't work.

Did the black work everything when u had it? If the red key works the ignition, have a locksmith cut the black to match, it should work.

Yes, the black key worked in all the locks. I'll find a good locksmith and have one cut.

Dennis, I'm pretty sure that the only difference is that the RED key called a "Valet" key is that it would NOT unlock the lock on the glove box ( so the owner could leave stuff secure ).
Not that Ive ever used the glove box for much or locked it for that matter.

you are right. red key can't open the glove box but can open doors and start the engine

I’ve done this a few times lately. An observant locksmith will tell you the key blank is different. But when cut properly, the black key will work perfectly.

This is fine to do. I have successfully done this in the past. The only difference between the two keys is an extra groove which prevents the red key being used on the glovebox.

Gitesh is 100% correct the cut is the same for both red and black keys but the key blanks are different.
