    Windshield not fitting

I recently purchased a new front windshield from Sierra Madre that has the Sigla markings. My body / paint guy is having difficulty installing the windshield and thinks the glass curvature / size isn’t correct. He’s concerned about putting too much pressure on the glass and breaking it. He’s been restoring 356 & 911’s for over 30 years so he’s not a novice. Has anyone run into this before and have any suggestions?

ive never had a problem installing a windshield.
but lately i have read a lot of post by people who have had problems
it appears their solution was to shape the metal trin to fit the opening first

Thanks Bob, we’ll try that first.

I would think dry fitting the windshield into the opening without the trim or seal would highlight a basic curvature problem with the glass.

You could install without the trim and that would be easier but it's not the trim. I assume he's using the rope and wetting the entire Porsche seal with glass cleaner to help it go in? I have had a few that were difficult like yours and want to pop out in the lower corners. The trick is get 3 people. One inside the car with the rope and one guy at each lower corner. Start on one side having the person put pressure on from the outside and continue to through the whole process. Have the other guy do the same as the rope comes to their side. I haven't broken one yet. Pilkington owns Sigla so I assume it's a Pilkington piece of glass with the Sigla logo on it. You could ask SM where they order them but they might not tell you. We order them from Pilkington directly.

I have a Pilkington and it fits well, but required pushing the trim towards the corners with a piece of wood. Are you using the Porsche seal? You might need to push some dumdum into certain low places in the corners. Having 3 people as Scott recommends does help a lot. Put a blanket on the valence and trunk are just in case.
I was told that the trim is what locks the windshield in place.

I'll give you guys another tip also. After the window's installed wherever the trim is slightly raised take a rubber mallet and gently tap it down until it's flush. Works great.
