    Richie Ginther 914/6 SCCA C Prod Cars

    Hi All,

    I know this is a 914 related topic but what is the evidence out there on how many 914/6 were converted by Richie Ginther for C Production racing in 1970 (and possibly 1971)? I believe VW-Porsche USA supported 6 cars in the 1970 season to contest the SCCA C Prod championship. The six were Gregg and Harrison in the East, Forbes-Robinson and Johnson in the West, and Hindson and Noah in the Mid-West. The championship was ultimately won by my friend John Morton & the BRE Team in the 240Z at the run offs at the newly opened Road Atlanta. I also have reason to believe 5 other cars at least were converted by Ginther in 1970 (edit: Zimmer x2, Stroh, Dietrich, Behr) Also how many of these are accounted for?

    The Silver car is currently in the UK. I am trying to confirm that Ginther converted this car for Jack Zimmer ? Still researching.?

    The Peter Gregg car should be alive and well. I saw it sell in 2007ish.

    Interesting reference....

    In 1980 I pick up a used hardcovered edition of Alan Johnson's 1971 'Driving in Competition'... Kind'of'the bible for beginners into SCCA club racing...

    In '71 Johnson and EFR were driving Ginther's C-Prod 914-6's so naturally some of the helpful photos are of the Ginther 6's

    The book was/is invaluable for starting out in club racing, and the basics of performance driving...

    But funny, back then, not being a Porsche guy, me and my friends smiled at the sections of the book when Johnson used a little model of a 14-6 to illustrate the proper line through the turns, and even tough the positions in the turn were numbered the fact was at first glance you didn't know the front from the back of the little model car...

    Thanks Chuck, i will purchase that. If I'm not mistaken the six cars sent over by Porsche are all Orange.

    Stretch the silver car for sale is the Jack Zimmer owned Ginther converted car. One of two Ginther did for Zimmer if the red one in the photo is an indication of another.

    I believe the Bob Hindson car exists still, which was one of the two Mid-West cars run by Bunker Hindson Racing in Overland Park, Kansas. Here's a link to stuttcars (paywalled) about that car: https://www.stuttcars.com/identity-c...porsche-914-6/

    Also, I know of another that Kerry Morse owns and Ed Palmer takes car of that was a white car run by Bill Stroh out of the Chicago area. He participated in the C Production Run-Offs with the car alongside the six factory supported cars that Ginther built.

    I'm attaching the C Production Run Offs results & a photo of that race. The Bill Stroh, Chuck Dietrich, and Stephen Behr entries would all be private entries in addition to the six factory entries. This means there were likely two more Ginther prepared privately run cars for a total of five including the aforementioned Stroh and 2x Zimmer (Carousel Motors) cars. It is of course possible a shop prepared their own car but that seems pretty unlikely with how specific the cars were with the windshields etc.

    According to my count then there would be the three factory cars (Hindson, Gregg and Johnson) and two privately run cars (Zimmer and Stroh) that exist as of my count of the speculated minimum of eleven made in 1970.

    I had no idea they ran the 14-6 without a traditional windscreen. You learn something every day.
