    door panel colors

Hi, I am doing some research on door panels finish and colors.
I have done some research on this forum but didn't find all of the answers I'm searching for (sorry if this has already been discussed, and I did't find it).

from what I have found until now :

    - 65-67 doors panels could be vinyle (standard) or leather with the "complete genuine leather upholstery" option (9425). They were matched with the color of the seats.
    - 68 door panels were only in black vinyle and could be either elephant skin (up to 68/02) ou basketweave finish (from 68/02)
    - 69-71 door panels were only in black vinyle with basketweave finish
    - 72-73 were plain vinyle with 5 possible colors, 3 standard and 2 on special order : black, beige, brown / blue and red

Im a pretty sure about 65 to 68, but have two doubts :

Was it possible to have another color in 69-71? I've seen cars with beige or red basketweave, but they don't seem original?
Was it possible to have leather in 72-73?

    Thanks

70 and 71 door panels came in more than black.
    I have beige, definitely original.

There were also some fabrics in some cars for some of the years.

    Thanks Joe and Scott.

So vinyle colors were available all years. So the real question would be, when was it possible to have leather door panels then?

For sure between 65 and 67.
I think it wasn't possible in 68 because of the special pattern of the door panel and the storage pocket.
I also think the basketweave was mandatory between 69 and 71, which doesn't allow leather.
    What about 72-73?

I have owned a 73 911E Targa since new. Was ordered with leather interior and that included door panels.

In 1968 if you ordered leather you received 1965-1967 door panels.

    Thank you ProfHollan.

Joe, this is a very helpful information.
I have seen 68 with 65-67 door panels but I thought it was due to errors during restoration. Thank you very much for this info.
I think I have all of it covered.

So the complete answer would be :

    - 65-67
Doors panels were in vinyle or leather with the "complete genuine leather upholstery" option (9425).
4 colors were available fo each : Red, black, brown or beige.

    - 68
Door panels were in vinyle and could be either elephant skin (up to 68/02) ou basketweave finish (from 68/02).
Leather was possible (option 9425) but in that case 65-67 door panels were installed instead of the specific 68 ones.
4 colors were available : Red (not for vinyle), black, brown or beige.

    - 69-71
door panels were in vinyle with basketweave finish.
They could be in Leather with no texture, with the « all leather interior » option.
4 colors were available : Red (not for vinyle), black, brown or beige.

    - 72-73
Door panels were plain vinyle (leather looking like) or leather with the « all leather interior » option
5 colors for the vinyle, 3 standard and 2 on special order : black, beige, brown / blue and red.
4 colors for leather : Red, black, brown or beige.

You could search the forums for “sample” and I’m sure you’d find many threads showing the sample books. A google search will even pull up images of scanned brochures, sample books.

Multiple colors of vinyl, carpet available all years except maybe the 64-65 transition?

The only style I don’t remember seeing in any other color than black is the ‘68 ‘Elephant’ grain vinyl. I could look into that but, I’m feeling a little lazy right now (sitting in front of the fire with a coffee).

68 Elephant grain door panels did come in other colors other than black.
