You shouldn't have to trim it. Are you using Porsche rubber? You only have to trim the rear bumper pieces. I have the trick to cut those properly but the side rocker rubber pieces you don't need to cut. Go look at the last picture I posted one my 72 RS prototype thread.

I decided to look back at some photos of my 73.5 (very original long gone ) and found a shot of the longitudinal/rubber insert I was trying to describe.
Looks like the end is not cut to be flush with the end trim but cut to taper (looks like 3/8” ?) to the end trim .
So my assumption is this was the way the rubber was cut….Name: IMG_3457.jpg

Hi Frank - seems like a safe assumption to me. Looking at a few cars on Bring-A-Trailer seems to support the tapered cut both at the front and read of the car:

It's already cut that way from the factory. You shouldn't need to cut it again.

So here is what I know. Stoddard sells reproductions for $175 with the back bead and the rubber insert, under SIC part prefix which is their aftermarket. The ends are not cut.
Also they offer the Genuine Porsche for $575 for just the metal molding. They don’t include the rubber insert from Porsche as they claim it is too short.
I have installed side moldings on 3 cars this month, all aftermarket from Stoddard as they have it made for them. (They claim). Yes you have to slice the angle yourself.
I suggest when it comes to the end caps to buy Genuine. The aftermarket ones don’t have as much metal on them where it wraps around the corner and lays on the fender lip.
Either way, getting end caps, rubber to line up perfectly with the side mountings takes time. Not one of my favorite jobs.

I received my Porsche rubber and as Longbala & Rick have stated its already trimmed.
I test fit with end cap held in place to get each end exactly where it meets the rubber ….
Had to adjust/slide rubber once to get each end right on….it does match the end of the main trim piece.
The main trim piece & both end caps are Porsche and fit is very precise

I did have a piece of rubber (non Porsche) and was considerable more rigid and would need to be hand trimmed
Looking at fit of pre-trimmed ….think the do it yourself cut needs to be right the first time !
The rubber trim also has a slight taper to fit the end caps exactly …

Also recommend prefit the main aluminum trim piece with end caps held (taped) in place to get it in perfect position
