Parking / Emergency / Hand Brake Light On

    Hi All:

I am chasing a new (and oh-so-fun) issue on my 1971 911T. The parking brake light on the combo gauge is illuminated.

The light is constant on (not flashing) and has gone out a few times while driving on the freeway . . . only to come back on a turn (without braking).

    Just the facts, ma'am:

    • The brake fluid tank is 80% full.
    • The master cylinder is relatively new.
    • The gauges were recently refreshed.
    • Wiggling and pressing down on the parking brake handle does not impact the light.
    • Parking brake handle is fully released.
    • Wiggling the wire underneath the parking brake mechanism does not impact the light.
    • Brakes function as normal.
    • Everything was fine until one day I parked, shut the engine off, came back, fired her up, released the parking brake and the light didn't go out.

Any thoughts on where I should start my hunt? Thanks in advance!

Unplug the electrical connector from the master cylinder to determine if the MC switch has gone bad.

You might want to check your battery.

Thanks, Harry. Because I have a euro car, I don’t believe I have a wire that plugs up to the MC.

In an event, no wires are connected to the MC (and no wires are readily available in or around the MC).

Without a wire connected to the MC, the gauge light is on. Figure this suggests that my issue is with the switch under the e-brake lever in the center console.

This one has been solved. The wire coming off the e-brake switch got crimped under the new Recaro I recently installed. DOH.

It's always the easy ones, right?! . . . Thanks for your help, everyone. I really appreciate it.
