    cleaning/testing 912 oil cooler

    Guys,

Is it allowed for me to ask if we know a source to clean and test a 1969 912 oil cooler? I noticed a serious oil leak dripping down from underneath the #3 cylinder today. Any source for a new oil cooler that I find does not have the top mounting tab on the 1969 912 oil cooler so if it is not the seals and I need a replacement oil cooler, it looks like I might need to restore the current one.

BTW, does anyone know what the psi test pressure might be?

    Thanks

Another possibility, which is unfortunately common on 356 and 912 engines, is a cracked crankcase under the cooler.
But certainly check the seals and the cooler first.

Check the case for a crack under the oil cooler. The cooler can be checked if you have a fixture to do it, probably 50 PSI would do it. After you pressurize it, submerge in liquid to see if it bubbles. The case can be welded and machined. I have a cooler with the tab, also one with no tab. I also have a 912 case. Where are you located. PM me if you need any advice.

    Guys,

Thanks for the help/advice. My first step is to get the engine out and identify the problem. am off to the garage now to start the process. More news as it develops.
