Thread: Replacement VIN plate needed

    Replacement VIN plate needed

Buying a replacement VIN plate is easy enough but I would like it stamped as accurately as possible. I’m thinking the Porsche Classic Factory Restoration in Stuttgart would be the best place to get this done? Any other possible solutions? Thanks

No one knows where to get this done. If you find out let us know. Thanks

Could buy a set of reverse letter/number punches These are for using on the backside of the pate so that when you look at it, the letters/numbers are raised. I think I saw a set on Mcmaster Carr sight

Was thinking about getting a set

    Thanks, Rick

I have done several plates, about 4 a couple weeks ago, both VIN and color.
The metal stamps are available out of Germany, in several sizes.

I practice over and over and over. I used tape to get the spacing correct.
I mark up the tape, pot the numbers in the tape. And double check everything about 3 times, so 6 checks.
And even with that, I messed up 2 weeks ago on a paint tag.

I haven’t been offering because, it’s too stressful.
The VIN tags are expensive now.

I had to modify my metal stamps, and my ‘3’ isn’t as correct.

I’ll try and find the German stamp maker.

From a 356, the old tag was just too far gone.

You might search over on the Porsche356registry.org website as there is someone there that does them. I had him do a paint tag years ago but I think he is still around

Scott, if you decide to offer as a service let me know. The ID plate looks good and better than not having one at all especially for DMV people.
