Thread: Key hole cover

    Key hole cover

While locking my drivers side door, I noticed the small cover of the key hole on the door handle is missing.
I believe this latch is used to keep debris, water out of the key mechanism?

It moves to the side as you insert the key.

Any ideas where it went? Fall off, fall apart?

The second photo is showing the passenger side door handle with the key cover.

    Hello
Look inside with a small flashlight. If you canīt see it nowhere and your key is still working , it probably fell out. If you can see it on one side, then dirt has glued the hinge. Then use some rust remover eg WD40.
Otherwise you have to remove the lock cylinder and replace the basic part. Or you can leave it, the cover ist only for protecting against water and dust. Regards Werner

As Werner said, it might still be in there. It is spring loaded and the spring can become gummed up.

If you ever get around to taking it all apart, I’m sure I have enough bits and pieces to get you straightened out, just send me a text or dm or whatever with your address and I’ll send you the bits you need.
