Black or gold emblems on 73?

I know this had been discussed a fair amount but I'm still confused whether my 73 Targa with the comfort equipment option (470) should have black or gold emblems and scripts. I'm starting to think that the gold emblems only applied to cars up to 71 that originally had silver emblems.

Hoping some of the experts can chime in here.

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks a bunch! I actually prefer the black. Think it will look better on the light yellow paint.

So, the gold emblems that were part of the comfort equipment option stopped at 71? Or is there more to the story?

There's much more to the story.

Silver emblems were first introduced to the 900 series cars with the 912. Gold on 911s and silver on 912s. I'm handing off the ball to the next poster. Kinda like Purdy to McCaffrey. Let's keep this going and not fumble.

I have a 1972, optioned M470 which calls out gold according to the paperwork I got from Dave.

Indeed there is if want to be exhaustive … 73 RS got blue red or green self adhesive model identification decal offset to right on ducktail but only if painted GP white. This or decal delete was specified by a four digit code on the punch card in area normally used for targa ( there wasn’t a production version of Targa RS so the 4-digit area on the order punched card was repurposed.) Those 73 RS ordered in colours other than the reserved 908 GP white had to have black decals on ducktail instead. In December 1972 an exception was made to allowed black RS to have red decal on ducktail because they realised the rule resulting in a black decal on black body didn’t give contrast so wasn’t easily seen. Plus there were a few 73 RS specified with an aluminium lid ( ducktail delete), they got this black and white model identification badge positioned in usual place in centre of lid.

Surely every red blooded male of a certain age knows Purdey is spent with an “e” … and she drove a yellow TR7 which had black model identification decals

Never heard of McCaffrey, so don’t know what she drove
