Other than the reference to Tectyl which in one was in rare documents on RS ( I’m travelling so don’t have access to refresh memory on what it said ) but my instinct is Porsche in Germany would’ve used a European German suppliers brand to provide protection perhaps not Dow 7 — especially it is known to go green.

I can't argue with that logic and reinforces my lore comment. Dow 7 has been bandied about for decades. it is reasonable that Porsche used a German mfg. equivalent, close enough to Dow 7 that we here in the States have assigned the process.

Whichever it is, my only goals were it should look the same and protect better than the original process.

I've been waiting to reply to this thread for a long time! I received the last of 4 jobs I sent to Shaun over 2 years ago. His quality is the best but it's the it will be done next week comments that are hard to deal with. If you could some how stream line the jobs of door frames and quarter window trim I'd send you another 8 sets to do. The quality is great but it's the stress of waiting so long and the it will be done next week and countless emails that are just hard to deal with. Stream line that process and I'll send you many more sets to do. I tried Shaun after King of Trim's quality wasn't great but they do get it done in a few months and the price is about the same. Shaun, you take on a lot and sometimes you just need to say no to customers. You do great work but it's super stressful waiting for the parts. If you could focus on what I'd think is the bulk of the jobs coming in like window frames and quarter window frames I could send you a lot of jobs and I know others would as I get asked about this all the time. 4 to 5 months to turn these around is totally fine for a builder like me but 2 years is stressful! I will send you one more set and if you can deliver in a reasonable time I will update my response to the good. I like your work!

I'll post my personal experience here so others can make their own informed decision. I sent my S calipers out to Shaun for restoration approximately two years ago. As others have stated, I was given every excuse in the book as to what was taking so long to complete the job. I was never in a huge hurry for the parts due to the car being back in the body shop. Back in February of this year I sent in an oil tank for cerakoting. I will say the cerakote turned out good, but the price was a little steep.... I was charged almost $500 for coating the tank (you can buy a new tank for that.) I was charged $125 for "powdercoat stripping," however, the tank was not powdercoated (one of my good friends owns a powdercoating shop and has done my entire suspension and loads of other parts, I think I'd know if it was powdercoated or not.) Anyways after becoming aware of this thread I reached out again giving Shaun one final chance to finish the job. He stated he was waiting for a "junk caliper" to test the new anodizer. After this, I requested parts back which were just received today. I will be sending them out to PMB (which I should have done in the first place).

A new customer just dropped this off yesterday, it's an original 225mm RSR fan and housing that he had Dow'd. Oddly enough he wants it redone in Cerakote. I asked him which Dow process was used and the name of the company. It is a marvelous dark grey. He used someone else to plate the hub and rivet it in. Plating is poor and rivets are hamfisted in place. I hope whoever did it didn't enlarge the holes in the fan. The shanks are just squashed flat on the back and the counterunk heads aren't concentric in the hub holes.

Thanks for the nice post Scott. A few things, more tomorrow. On King of Trim, I've redone 3 of their sets. Taking what I do out of the equation, I wouldn't put their work on a rusty driver T. Here are some pics I was given just the other day of KoT work. I can't believe all that pitting. The guy who stripped the frames left in a hot caustic soda (something I never use) for probably 5-10 minutes. But they didn't even get it out, they just polished the frame. I also have complete 2 complete Dodge and Plymouth aluminum trim and panels in-house precisely because KoT does such poor quality work. More tomorrow.

    from the 2nd February....

Peter, I think tomorrow's test for anodizing soft aluminum will allow me to do your grille.

I happen to know he is still waiting.

Hey Clyde, in fact it was only 2 weeks ago that I settled on the new method, but Peter's ribs were done with the old. I just have to assemble the grille, but that's been at least 2-3 months now. In the last 2 I've been moving to a new shop. Pics right now of my last day here in Watertown. Big day, more later. A lot has happened this year!

Sent my large Durant mirror out for polishing and new glass in February 2023 to Tru6. Was supposed to take a month or two and I’m still waiting. Shawn did offer a repro to fill in but they have a different mounting, so they sit too far forward.
Anyone have an original large Durant to sell? Getting my car on the road, so I can’t wait any longer. Thanks. John
