Thread: Two post lift pictures

    Two post lift pictures

I am looking for pictures of swb cars on a two post lift, I’m trying to see how much of the car sits in front of the posts and how much behind the post. Are the posts right in the middle of the car or more towards the front or rear of the car. If anyone can give me numbers in inches that would be great, or at least a pretty good estimate. Thanks for any help

My two post lift has adjustable length arms to accomodate vehicles that have most of the weight in front or in back. So it is impossible to answer the question as you adjust the arms per vehicle. It would be a different story if the arms were not adjustable.

Here you go, I have around 450mm from centre of post to rear pickup point.

Thank you, that’s what I was looking for in a picture. Can you give me a measurement from the middle of the post to the end of the front and rear bumpers? I am putting a lift in my garage with the same type of adjustable arms, I understand that with adjustable arms the car can go forward or back a bit, but I want to get a good Idea of where to position the lift posts in my garage so that I am able to fit two cars in there.

Keep in mind that with a two post lift front to rear balance is VERY important. It is easy to lift the car in such a way that if you remove weight from one end or the other the car can fall off the lift. If your primary use for the lift is for extra parking, oil changes, exhaust or engine and transmission work, etc. then a 4 post may be a good option. Of course the 2 post is better for suspension, brake and wheel work.

I’ll also throw in, FWIW, that if you have significant chassis rust, this might be an unfortunate test to confirm it. Just a thought on my part.

So here are fairly accurate measurements off centre post.
I mark a cross on the floor either side, for the position of the centre rear wheels.

Thank you so much for the measurements and pictures. Exactly what I was hoping for. Also, thanks for the rust concern from 72 Targa. New pans under the car and down to bare metal body work in progress. So rust issues have been addressed.
