Mine was actually a truck. 1955 Ford F-100 stepside pickup. I was still in high school and I was absolutely thrilled. That’s me on the left.
We’re all car nuts. Will be interesting to see where we all started!

Like a lot of people, I'm sure, I got the bug from my dad. Here we are with my first one-- a 1960 Chevy he helped me paint red.
And us more recently in another red car.

57 Chevy hot rod, I was still into Detroit iron, Los Angeles was the place.
My first car was a '54 bug... Got it from my sister-in-law's 89 year old grandfather for $100 ...
Unlike the picture, it didn't have one straight panel except the roof (he never rolled it) ... (sorry no pics of the real deal)
I drove it for a year and ran it out of brakes, sold it for $75 ... The guy put $25 worth of brakes on it and sold it for $100...
As far as I know, 56 years later, it's still being bought and sold for the same price somewhere in the world...![]()

At 15 1/2 years old I saved up $2500.00 and bought a 74 2.0L 914. I converted it to a 6 but couldn't do it to the level I wanted at that age with little money so I'm going back to re live my youth and build a 914-6 GT. I just bought a rust free 1970 914 to build with my son. Pics are of me and Uncle Dave in Del Mar working on the 914 in my carport. The yellow 914 on the lift is my new project.

I’m thrilled to see these first posts. So neat to see such variety. I forgot to mention the purchase price for my truck (glad others did…it reminded me to mention it). It was $300. I got it by selling a 15-speed I had. Good times.
