    fan housing strap

The publication Der neue Porsche-Motor typ 911 published Jan '65 shows two pictures of an early engine. In one, the fan strap appears to be painted black, the other, plated maybe a silver color. Anyone have a definitive answer, if there is such a thing for early Porsches? I need to know for a Jan. '65 production. Thanks in advance.

I don’t know about Model 65 but for Model 73 over a relatively short period in calendar 72/73 the fan strap and fasteners went through three variations, in this sequence: initially in late calendar 72 it was a black strap with two hex bolts; then around the end of calendar 72 it went to a silver grey galvanised finish strap with two smaller hex bolts; finally later in Model 73 sometime around the early spring of 73 it went to yellow chromate strap fastened by a single in-hex ( aka Allen ) bolt.

From what I know it had a gray color not really silver.

The strap has a grey phosphate coating , not painted . This is an item that is incorrect so often people think paint is correct .
