So, here is what I see now. When I refresh the browser, the ads drop to the bottom. I suspect it’s due to the somewhat antiquated forum SW. I can’t even enlarge a photo in my iPhone without the screen jumping to the left somewhat like the old typewriter carriage return.

Does not happen on other forums I frequent.

In addition to adverts at both the top and bottom I get this sort of thing repeating throughout each thread:
    IMG_5322.jpg

If look carefully there are posts in this photo (which I took mid thread) but the real content can be hard to pick out! Sometimes it’s becoming like the children’s books “ “Where’s Wally” a challenge to find actual posts among the background!

Usually of late there are photo adverts between every post or two (often the same advert or set of adverts repeating throughout the body of each thread) so now very hard to follow the gist of the conversation. This picture is just one example of what is in the middle of thread. That’s only part if it , in addition there is a top advert “banner” that drops down to obscure the sites main navigation bar so that has to be closed to even get around the site. Then there is a further bottom advert, in fact it is usually a huge block of multiple adverts too. Moreover the commercial material I see doesn’t seem to be relevant to my browsing so if there is some attempt by advertisers to tailor the content based on my interests their analytics are (in my case) missing the mark.

Sometimes on a visit there might even be some “content” that isn’t yet more adverts from …. errrm… “non-commercial” members who regularly deluge the “new posts” tab with a solid blocks of their FS item listings … typically advertising old radios, lamps etc! In some cases rarely joining in other thread discussion, just flogging old radio lamps stuff en mass. Hard to believe this is an enthusiast occasionally just clearing out things from a stash that have been collected but is regularly offering such things can reappear doggedly due to multiple bumps. FS items are of course part of the site and can be useful but… hmmm.

Now that adverts of both types usually significantly dominate what I see here more than content it make it hard to follow on site then it will be put me off visiting to contribute to discussion . It’s a hobby ( it’s not Amazon, eBay or Craig’s list) it should be fun to visit not a chore to wade through predominantly adverts.

This is exactly what I see when I use my phone to access the site.

On my laptop the ads are much more restrained.

The admins should be able to make the mobile experience more like the desktop/laptop one.

If the mobile experience is a foretaste of what's to come, then I doubt I'll hang around for long.

And I don't want to use a VPN just to access this site ...

I have an ad blocker and combined with a VPN there are no ads. I haven't been able to find any downside to using a VPN as my IP address is still communicated. Other than printing - I have to disable the VPN to print to my wireless printer. I think there are some fixes but I just don't have the time.
