Color code question for 1973 911E

    Good morning,

Finally, after having joined the Registry in 2016, my first post. Part of the reason for the lack of earlier activity is that I just recently purchased my first early Porsche.

I have a number of questions and I'm sure many more posts will follow.

The first question I have pertains to the paint number located on the left door hinge. On mine, as you can see, the color code is 334. Looking at Johnson's Restorer's Guide II, page 183, there is no corresponding number under the Code section.

Another one of our members (rpc356), posted a photo of his 911T on 2-11-2014, 9:50 am, with the same paint number and referred to it as metallic blue.

On page 183, Johnson refers to code 324 as metallic blue.

Can anyone help me understand the discrepancies?

    Hector

334 is Blue Metallic, close to my 335 code of Gemini Blue
I understand it was code 324 up until 1972, then changed to 334

    Hector,

First, welcome to posting on the board !!!! .....

#334 is the paint code for Blue Metallic in 1973 and after. #324 is the paint code for Blue Metallic before 1973.

The two codes have indeed a slightly different formulas, but with almost identical results.

    - Here from Pat Paternie's Red Book
    - And the factory ''Samples Book'
    - And my car....

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers and welcome again,
    Chuck

    Thank you Chuck.

Also, appreciate the message you sent me back in 2016 when I became a new member. Sorry I didn't see it until a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to participating with the group. Great looking car Chuck. I'll post a photo of my car shortly.
