I suspect somebody does know that. I don't think all 911L cars had Elephant hyde interiors?

Agreed … My US-delivered 1968 911L coupe (#11805200, built on 2/13/68) was delivered with basketweave seats and dash

It looks like the switch from elephant hyde to basketwave was early February 1968:

Maybe the official switch was early January 1968 as Porsche may have used elephant hyde as long as it was on stock.

Elephant hide was used only for a few months due to stock or perhaps lack of popularity?

In any case, I believe these early 68 elephant hide interiors should be preserved and cherished, it’s really part of the 911 SWB history. My first 911, a 911L coupe, sold new in Switzerland, had elephant hide. It’s been restored since by its current owner and the elephant hide was replaced with basketweave… a real shame.

Elephant hide seats are even rarer (possibly produced in an even smaller quantity?) and should be absolutely preserved.

My early 911S still has elephant hide dash and door panels … and I love the originality, even the horn button is textured.

I totally agree, Thomas. Originality should be preserved!
In my database I have 11800513 and 11800524 with elephant hyde interior and 11800539 (delivered January 10th, 1968) with basketwave. So I think the switch was after the Christmas/New Year holidays similar to the switch aluminum to magnesium engine case.
    Enjoy your weekend!

Well, the problem is a matter of definition.
The date I'm referring to is the change in the production line.
When the car was shipped to the US, it took a few weeks to arrive at the dealer and customer.

    The Kardex says:
    Ausgeliefert am... und Abnahmebescheinigung....
Ausgeliefert am: date the car left the factory.
Abnahmebescheinigung: date on which the car was handed over to the customer or dealer?
