Looking for best hood strut replacement options

I need to replace the hood struts (again) on my 1969 911T.
I have had 3 early 911's and 1 912 and all have been plagued with replacement struts that don't last as long as one would like.
I am curious as to different options on non stock ones that might last much longer and hopefully still retain the OEM look.
    Thanks in advance.

There are a variety of mechanical hood struts (e.g. Rennline). The only issue is that if you deal with a shop that doesn't realize that the hood needs to be pushed back up to release and they try to force it down, they can bend the hood or the hinges. I keep a sign in my frunk for such occasions and haven't had any issues.

Those hood shocks are available in normal, or heavy duty. I have had luck with 2 HD, or one of each.

In 50 some years of ownership, I've found that a broom stick works best.

I installed Stabilus 9369BL heavy duty (430N) hood struts (911-511-331-00-M117) about 18 months ago without any issues since then: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...11-331-00-M117

I used to have a boxful of failed struts, they are gas filled I think, and are not very reliable. Maintenance item

It's a pity they are such a pain to replace.

I bought a black carbon fiber mechanical hood prop from one of the online retailers and it works great. It took me only a few minutes to install it in my hotrod 911 and it’s been significantly better than replacing gas struts every couple of years.
