    Gantspeed, any idea what happened?

    Dear members,

some years ago I acquired a race car, 911 2.4S ölklappe, to have some fun around the track, the car was sold to me as being the car Vanina Ickx (Jacky Ickx's daughter) drove on the 2002 edition of the Le Mans Classic. the car looked amazing so I bought it on the spot! fast forward a couple of years, I'm looking for some information about the car, for potentially selling it, and contact Maxted Page (MP), who organized the sale of the car to the previous owner, and in MPs description I see that the car has been converted to a 2.7 RS; now I understood how and why the car was so much faster than the other 911s. Anyway, I tried to find more information on who did the modification and found a lot of invoices from Gantspeed, hence I tried calling them to know more, unfortunately, the number appearing online does not work; nor does the website. I was wondering if anyone has met Robert Gant, or could put me in touch with him.

    Kindest regards.

    X.

…. years ago I used to occasionally pop in to Gantspeed when driving across country on my fortnightly trip from Hethel to the Lotus styling studio in the midlands before we consolidated a new-build styling and design in Hethel.

Not sure what the status of Gantspeed’s business is these days but try this:

Chapel Lane Mareham-le-Fen Boston Lincolnshire PE22 7PZ. Tel: 01507 568474. Email: no email. Website: https://www.gantspeed.co.uk/.

I know Robert well, I was his best man at his wedding a few years back - unfortunately Jane passed away.
Robert has retired, the business is closed down.
I believe he sold a lot of equipment and parts as a job lot. I was talking to him yesterday, his building in Mareham le Fen is now being used by a business to manufacture dog beds ....
He still owns a couple of properties on the lane and possibly the chapel , his parents bungalow is one of the properties. He closed up shop after he completed the resto of his dads Mercedes.... he lives in Gant Manor in Boston - as my better half calls it !!
If you send me your contact details I'll pass along to Robert .... He can be a funny old bugger sometimes so not sure he'll get in contact but I'll ask ...

    Update:
Spoke to Robert today (14th Oct) - he recalls the car. Gantspeed did significant work on it as it had been used well when he got it. So metalwork on the body - rust repairs in the usual places , and then all the mechanicals - tranny had significant work as it was knackered upon arrival. Engine was built to produce 230hp reliably. The car then belonged to a customer who had a number of rather nice Porsches in his collection - that was based in the south of France. I understand Robert built this chap the 356 coupe that ran the Peking to Paris rally - the first to do so ...

    Dear Nick,

Thanks a million for your detailed message and sorry it took me so long to reply, for some reason i am not receiving notifications on my email address whenever something is added to the threads…

Everything you say is very interesting and useful, I never met Robert myself, but I wish him all the best and my condolences.

With regards to the owner, when the car was taken to Robert, Gerald Harrison, was the name of the chap, based in the south of France, an indeed he had an amazing collection of Porsches that was all sold, if I recall correctly, by Maxted Page: https://dedeporsche.wordpress.com/ta...he-collection/ (here are the cars). I would love to know more about him and the car if you think it is wise I can share my number with you to maybe hand to him…
