    1973 jack 911 v 914

I am in need of a jack for a January 73 car and I have seen the recent thread which describes the jacks and on ebay there are a few jacks described as 914 but look to be exactly what I am after.

My parts manual has the jack starting with a 914 number.

Does anyone know for sure if the 914 jack is different in structure to the 911 jack as they sure look visually the same.

Does anyone have 911 jack for sale lollipop handle with a bend please?

Further, can these be easily disassembled for restoration?

Same part number also in next edition that has supplements from first months of calendar 73. It is a 914 prefix part. Not checked the part number in equivalent 914 parts book.

Never checked for physical differences side by side eg is length of those with VW on the silver cap different compared to ones without. Perhaps someone will measure both as heard it mentioned they were different lengths but I’d be interested in seeing actual evidence to support this.

In that era VW-Porsche had a JV sales and marketing operation so Porsche 911 were sold through VW-Porsche in many countries. If not noticeably or obviously physically different jacks who knows what got put in which cars on dealerships that carries VW, 914 and 911 at same time.

On PET the jack for 914 model around that era is shown as the same part number as one in the 72/73 911 factory parts book I posted previous post.

Not a fan of PET multi year format. Much prefer factory original maroon ring binders with their edition and supplement dates. However I don’t have the original maroon ring binder version of the 914 parts book for model year 73 to check it’s content.

I recall reading a comment on this forum suggesting the 914 version is shorter than 911 version of the screw jack but not personally compared them. Same part number 914 721 011 10 if confirmed used in 73 914 specifically would mean it’s same.

Has anyone compared side by side or better still measured known provenance 911 vs 914 ? There are similar screw jacks for VW vehicles around that era but details differ to VW-Porsche similar ones so any comparison ought to be clear it’s a VW-Porsche 914 example so as not to confuse the issue of 914/911 ‘73 jack comparison that Clyde is asking for.

PET also shows the jack part number for the mid 70s impact bumper as having a 911 prefix (911.721.011. 04), presumably the similar green dot screw type as seen for model 73 but with the cast peg?

Answered my own question thanks to an E bay seller.

It is the swing out support arm that was different shorter in the 914 jack, yet to establish if they were standardised by the 73 year model though as they had the same part number by then.

The 911 jack is on the right.

I might be comparing apples with pears though as unsure what year the 914 jack is from and I am trying to establish if they are the same in the 73 year model but at least I have established a structural difference

I recall the early crank up jacks from 73 911s as having a cast iron "swing out arm" and 914s always had a pressed steel arm. I've been out of the loop for a while
, so take this with a grain of salt.

Do they have a date code stamped on them anywhere? I have one with the cast arm doing nothing for me.
