    Fiberglass Dash - Resin Coloring Guidance/Advice

    Hi all -

    I ordered a fiberglass dash for my '69 build which is sort of an SWB/R backdate aesthetic and it arrived late last week. I was hoping the color would have more brown/honey/amber tones than it does. The below photo was taken in a very bright paint shop with fluorescent lighting and no windshield installed but as you can see it appears quite yellow. My plan was to satin clear coat the dash before installing.

    Will this dash brown a bit more if I were to set it out in the sun before clear coating? I understand FG resin browns/deteriorates with exposure to UV. It's a fine line though since this dash is already very delicate.

    Will it brown a bit after clear coating or once its coated, is the coloring "locked in" so to speak?

    Appreciate any input.

    Just my opinion…it’s stark contrast to the rest of the interior really doesn't have much appeal
    Suggest a textured finish of UPOL and then a satin or flat black painted finish.

    It's hard to predict what will happen with the coloring without knowing what resin was used. It should mellow out with UV exposure, but certain resins are more resistant to discoloration. Your best bet is going to be to do another layer of resin with a tint to achieve the tone/shade that you want. Fiberlay makes a brown tint I believe that would get you closer to an amber.

    Damon Josz is a master for this exercise. Don't know that he's done a dash but should be comparatively easy compared to other projects he's done. I'm willing to bet he has a mold.

    He built this from scratch using a Carrera 4 as the donor. One of the few replicas I've seen with 4WD. (Most "Safari" cars are jacked up 2WD.)
    Damon made the molds for all the panels to scale. Built as a true replica. I have photos of the interior and under-hood. It looks like the factory rally cars.
