Damage has already been done by some form of media blasting. Restoration will now be very difficult, if not impossible. Be very careful with acid washes as there may not be much metal remaining in some areas.

Phosphoric Acid, it acts as a cleaner and brightener for aluminum. The paint prep product is Alumiprep #33. Both are available on Amazon. There is also Phosphoric acid in Cola soft drinks. I don't think it's going to do much to help your VIN plate, it looks to be pitted from corrosion.

i put a lot of effort into cleaning my plate.
ultimately because everything on the car is new.
I bought a new plate from Aase bros.

How does one stamp the new information on a new plate?
The numbers seem to be stamped from the backside of the original plate

AASE sells plates with the embossed numbers for the vehicle application, they also offer an "engraving service" for the VIN.

Did you have yours engraved or did you have it stamped? ...Would like to see how it turned out.
