    Lit and Toy week questions

Mods if this needs to be moved somewhere else...push it.
My first time to the event (road trip), so I have some questions. I see the week as three separate events...Lit and Toy, shops and swapmeet.
I'm not much for memorabilia or toys or books...so if I pass am I going to regret it?
Shop tours I'm psyched for, but inclined to not want to go on a bus tour, rather drive myself...mistake?
Will probably bring some smaller stuff to table at the swap...what does it need? Webers, MFI, Solex 40s? And is it really a 50/50 split 911/356 meet?
Is there going to be any organized ESR presence?

The bus tours are handy if you don't have a car there--I organize them to hit as many of the shops as possible--but totally understand NOT wanting to do the bus thing.

The lit meet itself is more than just literature and toys. There are close to 150 vendors (almost 300 tables) that have anything from restored steering wheels to carbs to upholstery. Think of it as almost a trade show of commercial and private Porsche enthusiasts. Biased (extremely) but it's a good show..and worth the time.

The lit show is like an indoor swap meet for clean parts

If you never attend the Lit Meet you will regret it.

Note that it isn't just three separate events. I count 19 events on the Related Events page and they're all independent.

I've never tried to count the 356 vs. 911 parts at the 356 Club Swap Meet but there will be 911 stuff. The 356 Club's been saying that spaces are dwindling so make your reservations.

25 or so years ago the Lit Meet had rows and rows of literature for sale. It's evolved into a bit of a trade show: the literature pickings aren't what they once were but you can actually meet all the vendors you just know as websites.

Some of the most popular open houses seem to be:
    • Sierra Madre Collection (Thursday)
    • Willhoit Restorations (Friday)
    • European Collectible (Saturday afternoon)

With some planning you can usually hit a couple open houses each day.

WARNING: Parking at the LAX Hilton was very expensive last year (~ $55). Some possible alternatives:
    • There may be some garages a few blocks away from Century Boulevard but still in walking distance. However, the garages tend to hide their prices from people browsing the web.
    • There are lots of shopping centers and curbside parking not too far away but Uber or Lyft can break $20 each way.
    • Long-term airport parking costs less but I don't know that the shuttle bus stops at the Hilton. Walking from the closest terminal to the Hilton might be feasible depending on your physical condition.
    • Car pool.

If you do park at the Hilton, be aware that the garage clearance is only 5'10" or maybe 5'11".

Speedo , don’t fool yourself the literature, toy and memorabilia meet is anything but! I’ve been going on ten years at least and all of your known website vendors are in attendance and have plenty of wares for sale on display .
Yes it’s sponsored by the 356 Club but there are plenty 911 purveyors to go around , most parts and hard items new or restored and newest
    offerings available .
Yes there are books , magazines , photographs , posters and such you might come upon something you never thought you needed !
I fly across the country to the event but have family in the area , a vehicle stored from when I lived there and quite a few guys I know in the marketplace that it’s always good to catch up with.
Also the swap on sunday is a great way to see people you missed on Saturday and comb through some used parts for that rare gem you’ve been looking for!
If you drive out all the better you don’t need the bus or shuttle , but if you’re staying in the area it could be a way of avoiding unnerving traffic and relax with other enthusiasts …Bert

The last time I went was a while ago. Did the Lit Meet on Saturday then drove to the Pomona Swap. We camped out near the Porsche VW section and partied with the vendors till the wee hours.
Then up at dawn for the swap. Had a cheeseburger and beer for a late breakfast and wandered for hours. It was the best two days of parts picking ever. The only problem was that I spent more than intended.
The most memorable of all the events I have attended were the above number two. Number one was Monterey Pre Historics and the Historics week in '98. The 356 Registry Meet was also sandwiched in there. I'm sure the Lit weekend will be worth the trip.
