Thanks again for all the replies and info.
Unlike most people I like a car with minimal options. I definitely wouldn't want a car with A/C or a sunroof.

I'm frankly astonished at these prices. A very nice #2 S should be between 150-200k in my book, at least in Europe. Consider this example on sale by Dr. Georg Konradsheim: https://www.elferspot.com/en/car/por...-1973-3723658/

I would also suggest that there is no value in a concours example if you intend to actually drive it, but maybe that's just me.

In 2001 $25,000 would buy a nice one. In '97 a 2.2 all original cost $17,500. Both a likely in the 200 range now.

A car isn't a great investment and they are much worse if ACCOUNT for the insurance and maintenance costs plus personal property taxes.
IF you have to build an engine these days I've been quoted $40,000. That's gone up exponentially in the past 5 years.

IF I had invested the $25,000 and got a 10% return I'd be way ahead of the car and quite honestly could buy concours and pocket a fair bit.

All logic goes out the window when the heart is involved now, doesn't it?

Collecting experiences is the only thing that really matters.

I restored to #1 and then the first time I drove her through a few puddles and rain showers she became #2. As noted, if you are driving your car, a #1 car is pointless unless you plan to put it in your living room. #2 cars are usually better sorted than #1 cars, because people actually drive them regularly and make sure all the mechanicals work properly.
You can't drive a #1 car and keep it #1 for long. So what's the point?

And yes, I too prefer minimal options. My S had tinted windows and Koni shocks and that's it.

I think this is indeed a "real world" price range. P.S. that specimen you posted is worth a long discussion ...

I believe that if you include "quiet sales," the correct price range for a high #2 73 S coupe in a desirable color is more like $225-250K.

Indeed, those are the Hagerty numbers more or less. Their numbers come mostly from private sales after all.
