SWB steering column bushing - anyone know where to get a new part or a solution?

These stupid bushings have been crumbling for years, I’ve bought entire columns in the past just for the bushing. Anyone know who makes one of these? Now another car has made it to my shop with a really loose column and you can see the crumbs falling out of the column.

    They weren’t available for years…

I see Stoddard has one under part number 901.347.793.00 for $25 - anyone install this particular part from them. I’m always worried about quality from the various parts houses - some parts good some parts are terrible.

I guess I’m answering my own question here….

Sometimes you get so used to a part not being available you don’t look through the major suppliers. Part is available through Porsche and a Genuine part - even cheaper at Pelican. Should have done my research before I posted but maybe this will help others. A few years ago this was not available. Kudos to Porsche for offering some very early parts.

    Hi Mark,

This may be the part I need. Is the symptom up and down play in the steering wheel?
Mine has about 10mm of play.
Is it a pain to get to?

Thanks... it'll give me something to do as I recover from surgery.

There is a roll pin that is key to getting the clamshell off the column, I think it’s under the clamp. You can leave the trunk part mounted, it’s a bit of a pain but not impossible if you understand how the parts work. Those pot metal clam shells on SWB are delicate on the pinch bolts so be careful.

The roll pin might not be there in an euro / car with steering lock?

Finishing up this thread - confirmed, part is available, different material but it will work. Part number 901-347-793-00

Also here is the pin I was talking about, not a roll pin but still a pin on the bottom that holds that upper steering column into the lower brace.
