Thread: Amber Resin Smuggler's Cover

    Amber Resin Smuggler's Cover

This a smuggler's cover that will fit any 911 from 1965-1989. It is made out of brown resin that would resemble early RSR engine shrouds and other early RSR resin parts. This part includes hinges. PM me with any questions.
I am located in Southern California.
    $250 +shipping if needed.

How much less do your new part weigh than the genuine original original equipment metal Porsche factory “911 Part” of 73 ?

The factory actually used wood covers as the smugglers box lid to save weight for the genuine homologation RS chassis — wood cover temporarily fitted (using Velcro iirc to secure cover) for these 500 (plus 500) more chassis when sent to the independent scales to finally check weight. However the OE metal cover was fitted during conversion if these true homologation chassis to M471 and 472.

Did the 73 M491 RSR actually use clear resin material for as a verson of the smugglers box cover - I have the rare M491 factory produced parts list for 73 which is separate A4 document from the maroon binders but it is not to hand.

The fact Porsche turned to carpentry as the weight-saving solution on 73 rather suggests there wasn’t a factory part cover in this resin in period. Don't think wording of FS suggests there was. Pity if Porsche missed this opportunity as your “ reimagined” modern one is a neat idea — always keen to learn about authenticity maybe evidence will surface from the ESR community showing there was a “911 Part” in this resin material in long-hood period.
