    My bet would be the S cooler. Why would Porsche use the S cooler on the right and a much older cooler on the left. ? That picture is probably like all the race parts " Let's put in the picture what we have on the shelf. Sounds like you have made up your mind. Crack on....

    …because it was already available for the R? Cutting brackets off an S cooler and re welding them onto the other side sounds like a PITA to me (and potentially damaging to the matrix I’m told) if there were LH coolers already designed and ready to be ordered from Behr. The R cooler has the same part number as the one listed in the ‘72 MY spare parts list rather than a .02 version or suchlike so it all points to that imo.

    Anyway no-one knows so neither one is correct or incorrect!

    This was our solution to a very difficult installation that isn’t repeatable with any available parts to my knowledge. Custom coolers w/30mm fittings and NOS Argus hose.
    I wish pictures would load in order and wouldn’t flip.

    Although Matt’s does have the braided hose running inside the cockpit and through the bulkhead into the luggage compartment so a different arrangement on the right hand side; the left hand side is not dissimilar to the above but still no 90 degree fitting?

    If I could have dispensed with the welded in unions the hose could come in at an acceptable angle. Compare the hose angle of the two.

    We used the elephant racing hard line kit they had developed along with their 72 reproduction oil coolers.

    Despite our best intentions we made compromise after compromise during the project.

    Of coarse in the elephant system, the cooler fittings are at an angle which doesn’t hurt, it might not help a lot but at least it something to start with. In our restoration, we didn’t have the ability to compromise. With no 72 contemporary information available for fender well application, we worked with what we had and what we knew.
