    Re: testing 1,2, 3

The correct switch is not available, the part number superseds to a different switch. As for the lights remember their are many different lights Euro, Italian, and Yankee. The lenses, bezels, bulbs, reflectors and wiring looms for the lights are all different depending on application. They are not all through the grill "FOG" lights some are "DRIVING" and come on only with the high beams, a whole different deal. The light, lens, and wiring are unique for each style. The correct switch was a very common Porsche switch that was found in several applications, a single position pull and a double position pull for rear fog lights. And yes the steel S spoiler does have provisions for round lights, the two small holes on the underside on the spoiler are for a special bracket that mounts under the spoiler which holds the round 5" light. The light would be positioned in frount of the spoiler. The correct wiring harnesses have not been available for some time, but I can help you with the details of how to make the correct harness from a Porsche six point spare relay holder with wires.

The pull and turn switch is the supersededed part and is incorrect. It is the same basic style of switch that was found in the 1974 on 911. The correct one is a double pull like on the defrost, if the car had only lights in the front or the rear than it had a single pull switch.

PWD72S- Are you SURE the 914 in the bumper lights have the same lens size and diameter as the factory grill lights?? I have a set of housings and reflectors with broken glass only. I have put up posts on PP and rennlist looking for lenses and have been told by the Porsche world that I am SOL!! Have you personally made the switch and can confim the compatibility,or is it word of mouth? If yes, then I should have no problem finding FOG lenses,But I don't think driving lights exsisted on the 914. As far as the light switch, you guys have me back on track. The comments on the high beam, low beam deal makes perfect sense. Also, because of the unavailibility of the lenses, I have a set of old Marchel lights that are close to the eye as the hella, but are a 1/4 inch bigger in diameter that I use for everday driving. Then for purist events I bolt the hella lights back on. (the Marchel driving lights are brighter and much more functional). As for my switch, maybe if I slip on a rubber knob over my earlier switch, and snap in the insert,I will have the original set up. Thanks all

    Re: lights

Rick the yankee fog lights use a different bezel that allows for the use of a smaller lense that is the same as the 914. The R.O.W. lights have a different bezel and take a larger piece of glass. The US version light are lame, they use a little thirty five watt bulb and a lense it shares with the 914. Measure the front of your bezel, the exact size of the opening and I will tell you which ones you have. I have been able to buy different bezels but not the lense, except for the 914.

    Re: lights

100% agreement with Schmidt. The USA equipment thru the grill factory fogs are like candles. But I kept 'em on, because they were there. And yes, the lens is exactly the same as the lens from a 914. I'm talking the USA equipment FOG lites. On the face of the lens itself, near the bottom, in decending order, the following is cast: TN4..SAEF 70...Hella. I bought a replacement lens from Automobile Atlanta, the 914 specialists, some years back. Also picked up another replacement lens from a wrecked 914 here, and it's currently on my car. Switch & wiring I've never messed with. But I know Schmidt (always wanted to say that)...and would believe that whatever he says is so, is so!

Ohhhh...so that's what the holes on the back of my spoiler were for. Schmidt, thanks for the info! I've seen photos of cars with the spoiler, lites mounted low, and just thought it was some aftermarket thing.

    Re: lights

Measuring from the face of the bezel the Yankee lights are about a 110mm opening and the ROW are exactly 120mm. Lenses for the 120mm are not available any longer in either fog of driving flutting. The 110mm lense is available. The correct switch is the style 8082 as seen on the back of the switch, its the small single pull switch used on many different applications from fog lights to single stage early rear defrost, the part numbers vary only because of the different knobs for various uses. The correct one has a little light that comes thru it like on the defrost switch if you remove the large rubber knob and symbol. The two stage switch is different than the defrost two stage switch 8524, it is very unique and I have only seen one, it is longer and skinnier than the 8082. There is no reason that the defrost style switch cant be used in a two stage application, from the front it looks the same, only the body of the switch behind the dash is different. Most cars need only the single stage switch which is very common, FORGET THE PORSCHE PART NUMBER ON THE SWITCH IT DOESNT MATTER, YOU JUST NEED A STYLE 8082. If it does not have the little light you can steal the optic plastic and plastic knob with the hole in it out of a defrost switch. The little light will be red instead of green but this is easy to change. All lights are wired from the fuse box to the lights but you must have the harness with the relay from the switch to the relay to the fuse box, if you have driving lights then their is no switch but there is a special harness to wire from the high beams to a relay to the fuse box.

    Re: lights

Like I said...compared to Schmidt? I know "Jack Schmidt" about the early 911. He knows more about my car than I ever will. This folks, is not a slam. It's a compliment. That's because I know the man personally. And I still am amazed that somebody at his young age would give a flying french kiss about these cars, let alone research & gain the knowledge he has. Jeff...I think you're like an art student, centuries ago. He looked at the Mona Lisa, said "hey, this is cool." Thanks for caring...REALLY!

    Re: lights

Yes Jeff your vast knowledge and willingness to share is greatly appreciated. And while I'm at it, I have a set of Hella lenses that say E1, 4524. Anyone know which ones these are for?

    Re: lights

Thanks Paul and Carlo, your acknowledgement is appreciated. I dont know what those lens' are for. I would have to see them to be able to tell. I have always wondered what those numbers are for, but there may be a Hella casting number on the lens about ten digits long. Also measure the size of the lens, total overall diameter and the diameter of the step where the lense is recessed into the bezel. Also does the lens have fluting for driving or for fog lights? Easy way to tell, hold the lens up to a bright light, does the light as seen through the lens look like a line straight line as seen through the lens? If so it is a fog lens and is designed to be used with a sheilded bulb reflector.
