    Fan Shroud paint

    Hi Guys,
I have been reading for a while and am amazed at the knowledge transmitted on these pages. I am rebuilding my 73S motor and have a question about the fan shroud. I want to keep it original, but there are a lot of scratches that look to need painting. Has anyone had success painting this fiberglass piece so that it ends up looking acceptable?

    I agree with schmidt Walter...

    The closest I've come is...
Cleaning the hell out of it... then applying red leather dye with a daubber and alcohol let it soak in ... then put some pledge on it ... and in about 2 days of runnin the car the red calms down enough to live with.... kind-a

As soon as you paint it it looks like it's been painted if-ya-know-what-I-mean

i am way out of line here, but on the boats i have to repair and color match the gel coat. could be my only talent. ( looks to me that the shrouds have colors mixed in with the resin ie. no gel coat. )

you could attempt to mix up some marine tex and add some pigment for deep scratches or gouges. ( available at skidim.com, westmarine, boatersworld ect ) your are supposed to be able to use this stuff on engine blocks, so it might be temperature stable. i don't know? might cost you 20 bucks or so if you can get it locally. worth a try.

minicraft(.com) makes aresol (sp) spray gel coat in a bunch of different colors. you have to buy the hand pump to pump the catalyst in the can ( 50-60 bucks for the pump and a can of spray?)
