Porsche 1970 911-S - mystery part at front signal housing?

Can anyone identify this part for me...it certainly seems to have been there its entire life. Was thinking an outside temperature sensor, but no interior gauge on this highly original car. Thanks!

In looking at my posting again, I realized I should have been more clear...this piece sits directly behind the drivers side (LEFT) horn grill. Still looking for an answer if anyone knows what it is. Thanks!

Where does that tube extend rearward to ? Is the right angle bracket welded in ?

Ed - thank you. The tube just ends as you see it in the photo and the angle bracket I recall being bolted in but will look more closely this evening.

Yep, the angle bracket is bolted in, can see the bolt head in the shadow. Since that seems to be home made its anybody's guess. Never seen anything like it.

Looks like a temp sensor, maybe for a temperature gauge inside the car (follow the wire?). Clean it up and look for a VDO description on the wrench flats, just like the temp gauge on the motor.

    Outside temp gauge seems good.
If you carefully brush the brass hex part with a brass or wire brush you'll probably see VDO 6-24V and something else.
No idea whether that is OE but from the thickness of the bracket I'd rather say no.
    Cheers

Thank you all...there is no wire to follow, and no outside temperature gauge in the car. The car is about ready to onto my rotisserie and will likely just remove it...but not throw it away .
