    1972 911T Sportamatic Conversion

I am looking for information on converting my 1971 911T with a Six Cylinder and Sportamatic to a 5 speed manual trans. Is this an easy conversion? Aside from the obvious missing pedal and linkage what other problems will I face? What years of 5 speed trans will bolt to the engine?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sportamatic Conversion

    Hello

You need a trany´, the suiting shifter and the pedal box with clutch cable and the cluchtunit with suiting flywheel according to your transmission.

    You can use 901, 911 or 915 ( if you have a MY 72 body )

depending on the transmission you maybe need suiting driveshafts and suiting axle studs.

The conversion is very straight forward:

Remove the complete engine with trany.

Split the unit and mount the clutch up to the engine.

Replace the long sporto studs with the correct ones.

Modify engine wrieloom. Remove heat sensor from trany and bolt it into engine. Remove cam driven Oilpump and the line to it. Bolt block off plates onto the fiting on the Oilline. Block off fiting on the oiltank.

Remove the Vaccumcanister and all the relatet vac lines. remove the vac shift regulator.

Unbolt the vacline nozzles in the manifolds and bolt block offs into the holes.

Remove Shifter and pedalbox. Insert the clutchcable hang in the new pedal unit and hang on the cables.

then modify your existing shifter if the reverse lockout is on the correct side. If not swap to the correct unit.

Bolt the correct half shafts into the car rebolt the engine and trany.

If everything is prepared you can do it over the weekend.

Profs in a shop can manage it in one day however with the engine out it is the best time to have the engine looked trough.

Don´t junk your old trany. Try to trade it in as some parts are usefull for others.

    Grüsse
