I hope I can shed a little light on the subject. Engine and transmission numbers WILL NOT necessarily be in sequence due to the fact that engines did not always pass the dyno tests and would be sent back for repair or replacement before installation. Transmissions could be ordered with special request gearing and some were built by Werks 1 who handled the special orders at that time. The only way to know what engine and transmission was installed in the car when it was built is order a copy of the build certificate from Porsche. And still it may still be different if the engine or transmission had to be replaced before retail delivery. It does and did happen.
The numbers will only be in a general sequence. Hope this helps.
    All the best!

    matching numbers

    Hello

    OK

    I see the problem.

Porsche does not match numbers like Chevrolet did it

But on the built process the charts get filled up with what came into the car and those files still exist.

Now those files where keept up until the car came out of the waranty time. Those files also show wich dealer made what repair under waranty and how much they charged Porsche for that.

Also many dealers informed the factory when they renewed tranys or engines* or the key set.

( *As the engines and tranys from the factory also had a waranty )

    Grüsse
