    How does this go in?

I know it goes through the seal but how does it go into the car? What is its purpose beside holding on to the seal?

The factory has a special tool. I use an awl with washers jammed onto the shaft to equal the depth of the pin. Put it through the seal into the holes on either side of the locating pin then tap in with a hammer on the awl.
