    Optima battery vs OEM

I'm reassembling my 73S to original. Although it will be a driver, I want to show it a couple of times this year (Rennfest in Atlanta is the biggest event.

The old batteries are shot. Performance products recommends 1 Optima battery installed on the driver's side, on it's side. I know this would significantly cut down on front compartment/battery box corrosion. However, for looks and performance, I would prefer two correct size, maintenance free batteries. The OEM batteries are the old cap/fill style. Any suggestions/help?

Some early 911 owners have installed a single Stinger brand sealed battery. They report a spec. of 800 CCA's. You could buy two and have that "stock" appearance without the acid look. Performance wise, they're about $175.00 a piece. A single Optima (also 800 CCAs) is about $125-$135. Mind you, two 800 CCA batteries wired in parallel is still 800 CCAs. The factory batteries were fairly puny (something like 300 CCAs?).

Do a search in this forum for some previous discussions on the subject.
