    carpet instalation

i have a '71 S targa with an ugly, non-original, set of carpets and plan on replacing them with some that are as close to original as possible.

first: any recomendations on where to get em. everyone sells em and claims they are just like the originals but..... can they all be?

second: i am fairly handy but have never installed carpets before. think i can do a good job (any tips?) or should i find a pro to do it?

You can do it - not hard. Get the original German velour or the closest copy. More expensive, looks better, lasts longer.

On my '65, some of the carpets just lie there. I've reattached the tunnel carpet with ordinary contact cement. Carpet seems a lot easier than headliners.

I don't know if Porsche still used the silver-flecked, black wool velour in '71, but that stuff is gorgeous in my '65.

I had my interior redone at Autos International, and I've plugged them too many times already. I paid them--not the other way around. They make interior sets for some of the usual parts suppliers. They can supply most original materials.
